ISLAND HIDEAWAY MALDIVES Dhonvakulhi

Class

Open since August 2005, The Island Hideaway at Dhonakulhi sits on its own 1.4 kilometre long, crescent-shaped island, complete with lush green vegetation, long white beaches and an adjacent house reef.

Whilst the resort offers 43 spacious, private luxury villas and whole range of first-class facilities, majority of the island has still been left in its pristine natural state! A rustic celebration of nature..

Dhonakulhi Island, with a beach length of some 3,200 meters around the Island, is a haven of peace, tranquility and serenity. The crystal clear turquoise waters of the shallow waist-deep lagoon surrounding the island stretch as far as the eye can see. The Island's uniquely rich and dense vegetation instill a feeling of harmony and being at one with nature. Guests can choose to arrive at The Island Hideaway either by a 45-minute scenic photo-flight from the international airport at Male', the capital of the Maldives, or guests may also fly-in on seaplanes or private jets, or cruise their yachts to the Island's fully-equipped world class marina.

Each of the 5 Jasmine Garden Villas sits on the beach front and has its own exclusive 9.5 metre by 4 metre private Infinity Swimming Pool and garden area. Entrance to the Jasmine Garden Villas is through a Maldivian-style courtyard garden, leading to a spacious lounge overlooking the swimming pool. indoor and outdoor bathing facilities and a ‘two-person’ hand-crafted bath. There is also a separate guest toilet and shower room across the Lounge. Guests may intimately dine in their Open-air Alfresco ‘Floating’ Dining Pavilion situated on a ‘mini-island’ that floats on top of the pool or, alternatively, on the romantic Roof Terrace. The Maldivian Swing (Undholi) Pavilion completes the perfect setting for your hideaway from the world.

The Dhonakulhi Residence

Each Residence, ina compound of over 550 square metres, has an open-plan living area with a timber deck outdoor seating. The French-windowed spacious bedroom overlooks the generously proportioned outdoor Jacuzzi Splash Pool. In addition to the indoor and outdoor Bathroom with its ‘two-person’ hand-crafted bath, there is also an Open-air Alfresco Garden Dining Pavilion and Roof Terrace. The mandatory Maldivian Swing (Undholi) Pavilion completes the majestic Dhonakulhi Residence.

The Raamba Retreat
(385m² land area per villa, 7 available)
Spread over 385 square metres, our elegantly rustic Raamba Retreats with their open floor-level outdoor terraces and landscaped gardens offer the perfect seclusion for a peaceful retreat. The 7 Raamba Retreats are dotted across the coastline on the beachfront. The Lounge and the Bedroom in the Raamba Retreats are generously spaced. The Bedroom has a walk-in closet area and en-suite Bathroom with indoor and outdoor bathing facilities and a ‘two-person’ hand-crafted bath.

The Funa Pavilion
(176m² land area per villa, 7 available)
The 7 Funa Pavilion Villas on the beach front with their chalk-white walls promise peace and privacy in a living area covering 176 square metres. Characterised by their own garden, a separate sleeping and living area with teak flooring, open-air bathroom and a wooden patio area facing the beach with two thickly cushioned teak sun-beds, these Villas offer luxury over and above the call of duty. Their design is a declaration of love for nature with an eye for detail. If their architecture leans heavily on nature, so, too, does the colour scheme of the villas with its earthy shades of brown, beige and green. A round table with a two-seater sofa and two cocktail chairs forms the communicative centre of the living area with its integrated day bed and wine-red upholstery. The satellite TV with DVD and surround-sound system and multi-format CD player has been accommodated in a separate cupboard. The bedroom has a superking- size bed, walk-in wardrobe and a writing table. The bathrooms have a bath and shower and have been tastefully decorated with granite, slate and onyx finishes.

And those wanting to experience a bit of local colour can sail out on a traditional Maldivian dhoni boat or their own yacht to one of the nearby inhabited islands.

- Tennis, Fitness Suite, Beach Volleyball, Bicycle Riding and Silat – the more sportingminded can enjoy a game of tennis, volleyball on the sand, jog along the beach, bicycle along the hidden trails, or work-out at our Fitness Suite. For the early birds, a refreshing session of silat is “just what the doctor ordered”.

- Sunset, Sunrise, Night and Big-game fishing – fishing is one of the mainstays of subsistence for the Maldivian people, who have mastered it to an art. Our guests are able to participate in sunset or night fishing on a traditional Maldivian dhoni fishing boat, big game fishing and also go on fishing expeditions with fishermen from the local islands and experience for themselves first-hand as to what proper eco-friendly fishing entails. Our expert chefs will thereafter prepare the catches made by the guests in whatever manner they desire, including beach barbecues.

* Cultural Excursions – we arrange excursions for our guests to significant sites of Maldivian heritage and culture on nearby islands. One of the most important sites is the Utheemu Palace situated on Utheemu Island, home of the Maldivian national hero Muhammad Thakurufaanu or Bodu Thakurufaanu and his two brothers who saved the Maldives from the Portuguese in 1573 AD.

* The Hideaway Bazaar – at our Hideaway Bazaar you are guaranteed to find that ideal present for friends and family. Exhibited and retailed in our lifestyle boutique are finely crafted items such as Maldivian arts and crafts, jewellery and hand-made fabrics using traditional weaving methods. In keeping with the commitment tocaring for the environment, recycled items are also available for you to take home as souvenirs to relive pleasant memories of your stay. You will also find at the Bazaar those last minute essential things you forgot to bring on your holiday, including sun protection lotions and other toiletries.

* Sifani London Jewellery Boutique – Sifani London (www.sifani.com) is a manufacturer and retailer of high quality jewellery and precious gems products. Our partnership with Sifani allows our guests to design custom-made jewellery for any occasion, whether it be for weddings or honeymoons or just that romantic special occasion.
